Best Commercial Float ~ 2011 Canada Day Parade

Friday, July 15th, 2011

This Just In!

Ferguson Moving and Storage has won the 2011 North Vancouver Canada Day award for the Best Commercial Float!!

Our Madagascar themed float took awhile to put together, however the final product was well worth the time. Fans of the parade, both young and old, were very impressed with the design and overall presentation of the truck carrying a Lion, Zebra, Giraffe, and Hippopotamus! The music had everyone up and out of their seats, as they danced to the beat of “I Like to Move it Move it”. We had a great time participating in the event and truly look forward to going one step further next year!

For those who were unable to come out on Canada Day, check out this youtube video of our float turning up onto Lonsdale Ave.

There will also be a photo and some recognition of our award in an upcoming North Shore News! Stay tuned for that.

Finally, big thanks to everyone who made this day such a success!

Ferguson Moving and Storage Radio Campaign

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Have you heard your favourite Vancouver Movers on the radio lately?

Today marks the start of the final week of the Ferguson Moving and Storage radio campaign. For the past six weeks, we’ve been featured on some of the top radio stations here in the Lower Mainland.

-          103.5 QMFM

-          93.7 JRFM

-          CKNW News Talk 980

-          AM 730 All Traffic, All the Time

The support we’ve received from everyone has been great! Both existing and potential clients have been contacting us to book moves, but also to let us know they love hearing our radio commercials on the air. We tried hard to push the emotional aspect of the moving and storage process during the campaign. We wanted everyone to know that when they use Ferguson Moving and Storage, you can trust that you will receive the highest level of professionalism start to finish. We are constantly trying to differentiate ourselves from the average Vancouver mover… hopefully this came through.

Over the coming months you will still hear us on AM 730. In the future, I’m sure we will be back on the air considering how well things went this time!

EARTH HOUR 2011 – Turn off the lights!

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

On March 28th, millions of people from hundreds of countries will stand together and turn off their lights for one hour. This Saturday marks the fifth anniversary of the Earth Hour event, which raises awareness towards the growing concerns for climate change. What started off as an idea, has now exploded into the world’s largest global climate change initiative… and we want you to get involved!

How can you help?

First things first, at 8:30pm Saturday night, we urge you to turn off your lights for one hour. During the 8760 hours in a year, our lives are filled with the nonstop rush of electricity everywhere we look. Why not take 60 minutes to show we care? Take 60 minutes to prove a point. Take 60 minutes to improve the world we all call home! But it doesn’t stop there…

Talk to your family, friends, colleagues, teachers, strangers, or whoever, and try and get the word out! The World Wildlife Fund wants everybody and anybody to get involved, in anyway they can. From flicking off your lights at home, to some of the most significant monuments on plant earth going dark, millions will be trying to change they way we look at climate change. Regardless if its taking an hour to play flashlight tag with your family or a candlelight dinner for two, you can feel good knowing you’re doing your part towards a better earth.

Where we stand

We here at Ferguson Moving and Storage will be urging all of our employees and clients to do what they can this Saturday! We have strong feelings towards climate change, and are always looking for ways to improve the way we do business here in order to make our carbon footprint as small as possible. We love partnering with our friends at FROGBOX, who provide a green alternative to the standard cardboard moving boxes used elsewhere. We also recently introduced new software at our offices, which has reduced our paper intake drastically!

But what will you be doing?  Have you participated in previous years events? Maybe you have some tips for the newcomers this year? Whatever it is, we would love to hear about it. Leave us a comment below or post a message on our Facebook and Twitter pages and we’ll be sure to spread the word.

Consumers Must Take Steps to Protect Themselves from Unethical Movers

The Canadian Association of Movers (CAM) cautions consumers about “rogue” movers and offers tips on moving to protect them from over-charging, broken promises and unfair practices.

MISSISSAUGA/ONTARIO/CHOOSING A MOVER) -
Consumers who are planning to move during the busy summer moving season are already browsing movers’ websites or asking friends, family members or their real estate agent for a referral to a reliable mover. It is a known fact that approximately 60% of annual household goods moving takes place between June 1- September 15th so most mover’s phones start ringing by early spring with calls from consumers who want a cost estimate for their upcoming move. Well established companies will quickly book up.

Unfortunately, some less reputable moving companies try to take advantage of consumers by offering cut-rate prices, making unrealistic promises, inflating the price on moving day and holding the household possessions for ransom. To make matters worse, there are individuals who set themselves up as move brokers for the busy season, trolling for customers on-line, via print ads or other forms of advertising. These people do not actually have any trucks, manpower, offices, warehouses or insurance coverage. Instead, they simply find customers, and then broker the business out to anyone who will agree to accept the order. They take no responsibility for the level of service delivered.

Considering that consumers are turning over all of their household possessions to a mover, they should be certain that the company they choose does in fact have the resources to do the job. A few red flags that a consumer should be on the lookout for include:

  • * Movers with a cell phone number only – no regular business number.
  • * Movers without a physical address.
  • * Movers who only accept cash so the customer can’t stop payment.
  • * Movers who don’t pay the tax.
  • * Movers who refuse to come to the home to do a visual survey.

If it looks and sounds too good to be true, it is. Buyer Beware!

Consumers shopping for moving services online will connect with brokers all over the world who will sell their contact information to the highest bidder. Do you really want someone in The Netherlands to find a mover for you?

While there are laws and agencies that are designed to protect Canadian consumers, it’s a lot easier to hire a reputable mover than to try to recover damages from a disreputable one. It’s in the consumer’s interest to check out their mover with CAM before hiring them. Contact CAM at www.mover.net/consumers or 1-866-860-0065 to be referred to a Certified Canadian Mover or a Canadian Certified Overseas Mover.

movers

Monday, February 14th, 2011

When you’re looking for movers, you know there are a ton of moving companies to choose from. So what is it exactly that your’re looking for in a moving company anyway? Is it price? service? Quality? Convenience? Confidence? Trustworthyness? Professionalism? Uniformed movers?

For each person moving this year, the answer will vary. That’s why no single moving company will appeal to everyone all the time. At Ferguson moving and storage, we choose to focus on quality and service at a reasonable price. Definetly we are not the cheapest moving company. But we are also not the most expensive. We are not even the biggest moving company available, but that is by choice. With keeping our company at a medium size, we can focus on performing quality moves. But isn’t that what every moving company tells you?

To be different from the rest, Ferguson moving and storage chooses to invest in our staff. We are the only moving company in Vancouver with an in house training facility for our movers. Most other moving companies hire “experienced movers.”…the challenge with that is the movers have usually been fired from their previous employers and bring bad habits with them.

About 6 years ago, we had a bad experience with a so called experienced mover. We finally decided that it’s not worth it to just have experienced movers anymore. We decided to turn our company into a mini school for movers. We set up a 1 bedroom mach apartment and now all of our staff attend a training course before they visit a customers house.

With our essential moving skills course, we teach our movers all of the basics such as packing breakables, blanket wrapping furniture, lifting techniques and customer care. After the initial courses, we also give our staff development training for things like, appliance moving, piano moving, pool table moving and so much more.

So if you’re looking for the cheapest movers, then you may want to visit craigslit. But if you’re looking for quality movers at a competitive price, then call the only moving company with an in house training facility. Ferguson moving and storage.

Long Distance Moving containers

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

If you’re moving anywhere in Canada, you have so many choices on how to get there. If you read reviews online, you’ll also find tons of stories of people that made long distance moves in all sorts of various ways. You’ll also see a pattern of fold who chose to move long distance and had hard times. Let’s face it, moving is tough even at the best of times.

You have to leave your neighbourhood and all that includes, your kids may or may not want to go and you basically have to uproot your whole life and transplant yourself into a new environment. Your moving company, no matter how good, is helping to move 100% of everything you own and working hard to ensure nothing is even scratched or broken. Having really good movers does make a difference.

Not an easy thing to do especially if you are moving thousands of miles away.

Nonetheless, it does happen each and every day. What you’ll always find with folks that move long distance is reviews that include various problems that occurred along the way. The common thread on unhappy reviews is the response the customer gets when they report the problem to the management of the company they hired. Too often managers of moving companies forget how stressful moving can be and often are rude to clients.

This is such a critical moment between creating a lasting relationship and feeling just plain taken advantage of. For 95 years now, Ferguson Moving and Storage has built its business on the basis of trust, honour and commitment to customer service. The next time you’re moving long distance, consider using a long distance moving container. Moving containers in Canada are built to be waterproof and air tight. They also can be locked by you and now they can even be loaded by you.

On this site you can use the automatic move calculator to get a moving quote on your moving container instantly.
