Olympics & HST could affect household moving in 2010

From what we hear on the news lately, there is going to be a very strange trend in the moving cycle for 2010. Firstly, we have the Olympics coming to town. In moving terms, this means most folks will want to avoid moving during this period. And justly so, with all of the road closures, restrictions, parking regulations and security concerns, none of us really know how it’s going to go. Even though we have all of the information we can gather to avoid any problems, it’s the Olympics right, so who knows how the best plans may go.

Then after the party is over with the Olympics, we’re going to be in March 2010 and the HST will only be 60 days away! The speculation I have heard is it’s going to be nuts. Why? Because realtors commissions fees will jump a full 7% July 1st! This is huge when there charging a commission on a million dollar or more home.
Time will tell, but Ferguson Moving & Storage is preparing by ramping up our staffing levels, increasing our technology by aiming to be 80% paperless by March 1st 2010 and using computers, portable laptops and mobile internet capabilities. We’re also training our staff in our newest training facility which covers everything from packing breakables, lifting techniques, pad wrapping furniture and most importantly, customer care. Nobody can fully predict what will happen, but it’s fun to try.
