If you’re moving in Vancouver currently, snow is on your mind. There are some things you can do to ensure the snow affects your move as little as possible.
- Call your movers to make sure they’re coming.
- Shovel your driveway and salt it well the day before the move
- Shovel your outside stairs and pathways to make sure that they are salted too.
- Remove any icicles that may have formed on gutters to prevent injury.
- Have your movers bring mattress bags for your beds and shrink wrap your furniture.
- Make sure your movers put down floor runners throughout the house to prevent damage to your floors and carpets.
- Keep the coffee pot unpacked and working for as long as possible. Hot drinks are good to keep everyone warm.
- Check tree branches that are sagging with snow, they may prevent the big truck from getting close to the house.
- For the house you’re moving into, repeat the above steps.
Any time you move, there are complications. However, winter is much harder and needs some special attention. the last things anyone wants is to cancel a move because the moving truck can’t get into your property. In some cases, things may be out of your control. For example, the streets in your neighbourhood may be covered in snow and nothing is getting thorough. In those cases, unless you own a snow plow, call your movers as soon as possible to discuss rescheduling the move.
