Getting Your Price
We do not guess. Before we give you a price, a Ferguson representative conducts a thorough survey of your home, either in person or virtually over video call.
We look at what you are moving, where you are going, access factors, stairs, elevators, parking, and anything else that could affect the job. That survey gives us everything we need to provide a Guaranteed Price, not a rough estimate that changes on moving day.
A Guaranteed Price means the number we give you is the number you pay. Full stop.
Most moving companies charge by the hour. That means if your move takes longer than expected due to traffic, tight stairwells, or an extra wardrobe you forgot to mention, your bill goes up. Ferguson's Guaranteed Price eliminates that uncertainty entirely. Once we have surveyed your move and confirmed your Guaranteed Price, it does not change regardless of how long the move takes.
That said, not every move fits neatly into a Guaranteed Price. If your move has a lot of unknowns like items going to donation, storage, or the dump, family members deciding what stays or goes, or a home that is not fully sorted before moving day, an hourly rate may be the more appropriate option. We will be upfront with you about which approach makes more sense based on what we see during your survey.
Some moves are also a combination of both. Your main move may be priced at a Guaranteed Price, while additional work like a second stop, picking up remaining items, or a run to storage after the fact is handled at an hourly rate. We will structure your quote clearly so you understand exactly what is covered under each.
Before we give you a Guaranteed Price, a Ferguson representative conducts a thorough survey of your home. We offer two ways to do this.
A Ferguson representative comes to your home, walks through each room, and documents everything that needs to be moved. Ideal for larger homes or more complex moves.
Using your smartphone or tablet, we guide you through a video walkthrough of your home. Fast, convenient, and just as thorough for most moves.
Your Guaranteed Price is based on three things: the volume of what you are moving, the distance of your move, and access factors at both locations. Nothing is guessed at.
What you also get is something most moving companies do not offer: a custom move plan. A blueprint specific to your move that covers how your belongings will be handled, sequenced, and delivered. Over the years we have found that people do not just want a price. They want to know their move has been thought through. That is exactly what a Ferguson survey provides.
No. Ferguson's Guaranteed Price covers your move. There are no surprise charges added on moving day.
Hourly-only movers regularly add fees for stairs, long carries, or going over their estimated time. Ferguson's Guaranteed Price accounts for all of that upfront during your survey. What you are quoted is what you pay.
Ferguson pricing is based on the specifics of your move. Currently we do not charge different rates based on the day of the week or time of month.
That said, availability during peak periods like summer months and end-of-month dates fills up quickly. Booking early gives you the most flexibility on date and scheduling.
Yes. Ferguson periodically offers promotions such as free boxes or special offers through direct mail. The best way to find out what is currently available is to ask your Ferguson representative when booking your survey.
One thing to note: promotions and discounts cannot be combined. One offer per move applies.
Ferguson accepts Visa, Mastercard, debit, e-transfer, and cash. For corporate clients with approved credit, we also accept certified cheques and business cheques.
Planning Your Move
The earlier you contact us, the more control you have over your schedule.
The best time to move is when you need to move. Ferguson operates year round, summer, fall, winter, and spring, and we handle moves in every season across BC and beyond.
That said, summer months and end-of-month dates are our busiest periods. If you are planning a summer move or need to move at the end of the month, contact us early to secure your date. Moving in fall or winter or mid-month typically gives you more flexibility on scheduling.
Whatever time of year you are moving, Ferguson has you covered.
Ferguson handles a wide range of moves including local residential, long-distance, cross-province, senior moves, condo and apartment moves, estate moves, corporate office relocations, and employee relocation programs.
We also offer packing services, storage, and final mile delivery for contractors and developers.
Long-distance moves require more lead time and planning, which is why we recommend reaching out at least 6 weeks in advance.
We will conduct a full survey and provide a Guaranteed Price for the complete scope of your move.

We understand that plans change. There is no fee to reschedule your move. Simply contact us as early as possible and our team will work with you to find a new date that works.
If you need to cancel your move entirely, a $100 administrative fee applies. The more notice you give us, the more we appreciate it and the easier it is for our team to manage the schedule.
On Moving Day
For hourly moves, time starts when our crew leaves our location and ends when they return. This is standard practice in the industry and will be clearly communicated to you before your move begins so there are no surprises.
We also have access to additional trucks when needed, so scaling up for larger or more complex moves is never a problem.
One thing our customers really appreciate: every Ferguson truck is equipped with GPS tracking and on moving day we share that live tracking link with you so you can follow your belongings from pickup to delivery in real time. No wondering where your stuff is.
You can trust that the truck showing up on your moving day is safe, well maintained, and ready to work.
Because Ferguson surveys every move before providing a Guaranteed Price, we know exactly what is being moved before our crew arrives. We size the right truck or trucks for your specific job based on the volume identified during your survey.
Before your move date, our operations team reviews every booked move to confirm all the details are accurate and nothing has been missed. That second set of eyes is part of how we make sure moving day goes exactly as planned.
The goal is simple: everything that is supposed to go gets on the truck.
For winter moves and snowy conditions, we ask that customers clear driveways, walkways, and access points before our crew arrives. Safe access is important for your movers and for protecting your property. If you need help clearing snow before the move begins, we can arrange that for an additional fee.
In rare cases where weather conditions are severe enough to create unsafe working conditions, we will work with you to reschedule your move to the next available date. If your new home is not yet ready or you need somewhere to store your belongings in the meantime, Ferguson offers secure short term and long term storage solutions to bridge the gap.

Whether you have brand new hardwood floors, delicate tile, or freshly cleaned carpet, Ferguson takes the steps necessary to leave your home in the same condition we found it.
Every piece of furniture that leaves your home in a Ferguson truck is wrapped, padded, and protected. We use professional moving blankets and packing materials to guard against scratches, dents, and damage during loading, transit, and unloading.
We also include two complimentary items that most moving companies simply do not offer.
Complimentary Wardrobe Boxes
Ferguson provides wardrobe moving boxes at no extra charge with every Guaranteed Price move. These allow your hanging clothes to be transferred directly from your closet to the box and back again, wrinkle free and ready to hang.
Complimentary Mattress Bags
Every Ferguson local and provincial move includes brand new, never used mattress protection bags at no extra charge. New bags every time for every customer for sanitary reasons. As far as we know, Ferguson is the only moving company in Canada that provides complimentary new mattress bags as a standard part of every move. Please note that for international and some long distance moves, complimentary mattress bags may not apply. Ask your Ferguson representative for details.
These are not upgrades. They are not add-ons. They are included because we believe your belongings deserve to be treated with care from the moment we arrive to the moment we leave.
Yes. Ferguson movers will disassemble and reassemble standard furniture items including beds, bed frames, tables, and similar pieces as part of your move. No extra charge.
For complex, custom, or specialty items like pool tables, murphy beds, and large fitness equipment, Ferguson has access to specialized experts who handle these items properly. If you have any of these pieces, mention them during your survey so we can arrange the right resources and make sure moving day runs without delays.
In most cases, no. Ferguson movers pad wrap and shrink wrap dresser drawers so they cannot slide open during the move. For most dressers packed with soft clothing and everyday items, you can leave them as is and our crew will handle the rest.
That said, there are a few important guidelines to follow.
Stuff the gaps
Dresser drawers rarely go all the way to the top, which means small items like socks can fall out when we need to tip a dresser on its end. Fill any gaps with small pillows, towels, or soft items to prevent this.
Heavy dressers need to be emptied
If your dresser is already 150 pounds or more when empty, the drawers need to be packed out before the move. Moving an overloaded dresser risks damage to the piece and injury to your movers.
Fragile dressers need extra care
If your dresser is lightweight but delicate, we recommend packing the drawers to prevent stress on the joints and frame during the move.
Light dressers with light contents
If the dresser is light and the contents are light, you can generally leave it packed. Avoid leaving books, tools, or anything heavy inside.
Not sure which category your dresser falls into? Mention it during your survey and your Ferguson representative will give you specific guidance based on the piece.
What We Can and Can't Move
This is one of the reasons a proper survey matters. We account for everything upfront.
Local household moves
Ferguson can move small indoor household plants on local moves as long as they are packed in open boxes so they remain upright and stable during transit. Plants are moved at the owner's risk.
Large or outdoor plants
For larger plants or outdoor garden plants, we can connect you with a trusted landscaping and gardening company that specializes in plant relocation. This is a service we are happy to coordinate on your behalf so your plants arrive safely and are properly replanted at your new home.
Long distance moves and storage
If your plants will be in our custody for an extended period, such as a long distance move or going into storage, we do not recommend moving them. Plants in a dark enclosed truck or storage unit for an extended period will not survive. We will be honest with you about this rather than take your plants and have them arrive in poor condition.
Not sure what to do with your plants? Mention them during your survey and your Ferguson consultant will help you create a custom plan to make sure every green thing in your home is taken care of.
Sealed boxes are stronger boxes
An unsealed box loses its structural integrity the moment it is lifted. The sides bow out, the bottom can give way, and the box becomes difficult to stack safely on the truck. A properly sealed box with tape across the bottom and top holds its shape, stacks securely, and protects everything inside.
Label every box
When our crew arrives at your new home, we want to put every box exactly where it belongs. A box labeled Kitchen, Master Bedroom, or Office gets placed in the right room immediately. Unlabeled boxes slow everything down and create extra work for you after the move.
The only exception is small open boxes for items like household plants that need air and cannot be sealed. Everything else should be taped and labeled before moving day.
Not ready to pack? Ferguson offers professional packing services. Our team will pack, seal, and label every box properly so your move runs smoothly from start to finish. Ask about adding packing services during your survey.

Protecting Your Belongings
The best protection against moving damage is hiring the right moving company in the first place. A professional, experienced crew that handles your belongings with care is always your first and best line of defense.
Before your move begins, Ferguson conducts a walkthrough to document the condition of your items and any pre-existing conditions in your home. This protects you and ensures complete transparency from start to finish.
Understanding Moving Valuation Coverage
Moving companies are not permitted to sell insurance, but every moving company is required to offer valuation coverage. Valuation is not insurance but it does determine the level of compensation available if an item is damaged or lost during your move.
Ferguson provides valuation coverage at $6.00 per pound per article. Most moving companies only offer $0.60 per pound per article. That is a significant difference in protection and one of the many reasons choosing the right mover matters.
For additional coverage beyond our valuation, we encourage customers to speak with their home insurance provider. Many home insurance policies offer moving coverage options worth exploring.
If Something Does Go Wrong
In the rare event that something is damaged during your move, Ferguson has a streamlined claims process to make resolution as fast and straightforward as possible. We stand behind our work and we handle claims professionally and without the runaround.

Preventing damage to your home starts before we move a single item. Before your move begins, Ferguson conducts a thorough walkthrough to document the existing condition of your home. This protects you by establishing a clear baseline and ensures that any pre-existing marks, scuffs, or damage are noted before our crew begins work.
During the move, all furniture is professionally pad wrapped before it is carried through your home. As we navigate tight hallways and doorways, the wrapping protects both your furniture and your walls from contact damage. This is one of the most effective ways we protect your home during a move.
If damage does occur, Ferguson has insurance coverage and a streamlined claims process to resolve issues as quickly as possible. We want to be clear about what resolution looks like: if a scratch occurs on a hardwood floor for example, we will repair that scratch professionally. Our commitment is to restore your home to the condition it was in before the move began.
If you notice anything during or after your move, report it to your Ferguson representative right away so we can start the process immediately.

Yes. Ferguson offers professional packing and unpacking services. Our team knows how to properly protect fragile, valuable, and awkward items, saving you time and reducing the risk of damage.

After Your Move
In Canada, some moving costs may be tax deductible if you moved at least 40 km closer to a new job or school. Keep your receipts and consult with your accountant to determine if your move qualifies when filing your taxes.
Tipping is not required but is always appreciated. If your crew did a great job, it is a meaningful way to recognize their effort.
