Moving your office can improve your business

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Even though Ferguson Moving & Storage has moved many Vancouver offices, it’s really different when you have to move your own office. Recently Ferguson expanded it’s warehouse and office spaces from 20,000 sq ft to 30,000 sq ft. In that time, we have relocated much of our office staff. It’s amazing when you move how much that changes the daily operation of your business. For example, once the accountant used to be beside the operations manager and now they have their own offices.  The amount of communication didn’t change, but the way in which they communicated had to. Also, we have been growing and hiring more staff, this leads to more and more areas that communication.  The other thing that we discovered was the amount of things you can really do without when you move. Obsolete office furniture and older computers that nobody had the guts to get rid of. When you move, it really forces you to ask the question do we need this and does anyone use it?
Our trained moving consultants can assist you with all of these concerns and questions to make sure that you have a smooth move. Remember, we are your vancouver office movers.

In recent news reports are flooding in that the local ski hills such as Cypress mountain, will have not enough snow for the Olympics. In addition, the snow will have to be truck in, shipped in and some reports even suggest flown in with helicopters!

Perhaps Vanoc will even need our movers to assist with trucking in snow to the games. We’re your snow delivery specialists and we promise to keep it white.

Monday, January 18th, 2010

On Wednesday, March 24, 2010, the GVHBA Membership Committee is presenting the fifth annual Members’ Expo.

The event will be held at the Red Robinson Show Theatre (Boulevard Casino), 2080 United Boulevard, Coquitlam.  This event, supported by the GVHBA Board of Directors, is a mini supplier trade show presented in lieu of a regular dinner meeting.  Last year’s event was a great success and the response was overwhelming.  More than 300 builders, site supers, project managers and renovators were in attendance (a 30% increase versus 2008).  Attendees included representatives from Morningstar Homes, Genstar Development, RJR Construction, Portrait Homes, Polygon Homes, CCI Renovations and the list goes on.

Display space sold out last year, so don’t delay.  Furthermore, exhibitors will be allowed to invite their own prospects and GVHBA Director of Membership & Sales, Renée Auer, will also extend invitations to her prospect list.  Non-members will be required to register in advance.

The venue offers exhibitors:

  • Large display space sizes
  • Good acoustics
  • Ample floor space
  • Easy access for exhibitors to set up their booths
  • Free parking
  • A great atmosphere for networking

  • Whether or not you plan on being an exhibitor at the event, you may wish to consider a sponsorship opportunity.  See page 3 of this document for more details.  Or you may choose to be an ambassador for the evening.  This opportunity would allow your business cards to be made available to attendees and/or for you to network on a more personal basis with attendees.  Contact Renée (778-373-9782) to discuss either of these options.

Olympics & HST could affect household moving in 2010

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

From what we hear on the news lately, there is going to be a very strange trend in the moving cycle for 2010. Firstly, we have the Olympics coming to town. In moving terms, this means most folks will want to avoid moving during this period. And justly so, with all of the road closures, restrictions, parking regulations and security concerns, none of us really know how it’s going to go. Even though we have all of the information we can gather to avoid any problems, it’s the Olympics right, so who knows how the best plans may go.

Then after the party is over with the Olympics, we’re going to be in March 2010 and the HST will only be 60 days away! The speculation I have heard is it’s going to be nuts. Why? Because realtors commissions fees will jump a full 7% July 1st! This is huge when there charging a commission on a million dollar or more home.
Time will tell, but Ferguson Moving & Storage is preparing by ramping up our staffing levels, increasing our technology by aiming to be 80% paperless by March 1st 2010 and using computers, portable laptops and mobile internet capabilities. We’re also training our staff in our newest training facility which covers everything from packing breakables, lifting techniques, pad wrapping furniture and most importantly, customer care. To view a video of our 5 guarantess, visit our youtube channel for more details.

Nobody can fully predict what will happen, but it’s fun to try.

Greening your office

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Tip of the Month.

This month, I would like to focus on “greening” the office environment. As the environmental movement becomes more mainstream, green initiatives and solutions are moving into every day decision making and planning. Ferguson Moving & Storage, we are working on a recycling program for all obsolete office products.

So how does this effect office designs? It can be as simple of designing and supplying easy to use recycling stations. In today’s hectic office environment, recycling has to be simple and convenient. It also has to be easy to remove the containers when they are full.

It is also choosing more environmental options for products and finishes. Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)  paints are available in a variety of colors and comparable pricing. Environmental options also exist for flooring.

Most furniture manufacturers also offer environmentally friendly solutions. These options have historically been more costly, but as they become more main stream prices have become more cost competitive.
